Motherwort has been used as a heart tonic historically for irregular heartbeat, fast heartbeat, and heart symptoms due to anxiety. It was also given for the absence of menstrual periods, intestinal gas (flatulence), an over-active thyroid (hyperthyroidism). Also has been traditionally used for relaxing the uterus for delayed menstruation and to aid in the relief of cramping.
