Justly famous as the original source of salicylic acid (the forerunner of aspirin) White willow has been used for thousands of years in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America to relieve joint pain and manage fevers.
Salicylic acid is a strong anti inflammatory and analgesic compound first isolated from salicin in 1838. Is used in herbal treatment like aspirin without the same side effects that aspirin can cause.

Has also been used traditionally as a remedy for night sweats.
